The TRiO student support services project

The SDSU TRiO SSS Project is a federally funded group of outreach programs developed to increase participation and provide academic support to students in higher education.

The SSS Project for Students with Disabilities at San Diego State University serves more than 200 students each year by supplementing legal accommodations through intensive, individualized support services to students with documented permanent disabilities.

What are the benefits of becoming a participant in the project?

Services and opportunities provided by the program include the following:

• Academic advising
• Peer tutoring
• Peer mentoring
• Graduate school information
• Financial literacy advising
• Workshops focusing on campus resources, study skills and student success. 
• Guidance in completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and in seeking scholarships.

Becoming an SSS Participant

In order to qualify for participation in the SSS Project, you must meet the following criteria:

• Be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Legal Resident
• Have a documented permanent disability on file at Student Disability Services
• Be an SDSU matriculated undergraduate student (global campus and cross-enrollment students are not considered matriculated students)

AND must also meet at least one of the following:

• Be at academic risk (have a low or declining college GPA)
• Have a need for writing assistance and/or need instruction in academic skills and strategies.

How to Apply

1. Ensure you have completed the intake process with Student Disability Services, and have a documented disability on file.
2. Ensure you are an SDSU undergraduate matriculated student. 
3. Complete the Application Form for SSS Services and email it to [email protected]. 
4. Meet with an SSS Project Advisor to complete an intake appointment.
5. Allow up to two weeks to receive an update from an advisor regarding your eligibility for the program.
