Emotional Support Animal
Emotional Support animals
Emotional Support Animals (animals prescribed by health care professionals for emotional support) are not permitted in campus buildings, but may be permitted in places of residence. Please contact us for requirements and more information.
Due to recent changes to California law, specifically AB 468, emotional support animal (ESA) letters from providers licensed in the state of California must:
- Include the provider’s license number, license effective date, type of license, and jurisdiction of provider
- Be written by a provider who is licensed in the same jurisdiction as the client (i.e. where the client lives)
- Established a client/provider relationship of at least 30 days
Compliance with the above conditions will be confirmed by Student Disability Services prior to a recommendation to the Office of Housing Administration.
Additionally, students with an approved Emotional Support Animal (ESA) in on-campus housing will need to submit an updated ESA letter for each academic year.
