Scholarships for Students with Disabilities

San Diego State University awards a number of scholarships to students with disabilities, as designated by the scholarship donors. Qualified students may apply for these scholarships using the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships application process. Detailed information is available at SDSU Aztec Scholarship Website.

Mary E. Bean Memorial Scholarship

The Mary E. Bean Memorial Scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students with severe physical disabilities. Applicants may be enrolled in any major or academic program at SDSU. Undergraduate students must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average and be enrolled full-time. Graduate students must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and be enrolled in 6 or more units. The number and value of scholarships available each year vary.

Johanna M. Fox Memorial Scholarship

The Johanna M. Fox Memorial Scholarship is available to undergraduate students with disabilities who are Theatre Arts or Television, Film, and New Media Production majors. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average, be enrolled full-time, and have financial need. One or more $1,000 scholarships are available each year.

Barry W. Jones Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Barry W. Jones was an SDSU faculty member, as well as a regional leader in health promotion and research groups, particularly those concerning deaf and hard-of-hearing issues. Although he himself was not deaf or hard-of-hearing, Dr. Jones became interested in the field because he saw tremendous need for research and assistance. In addition to his work at SDSU, Dr. Jones was the co-chair of the Hearing Conservation Committee of San Diego, a member of the board of directors of Deaf Community Services and a multitude of other organizations.

The Barry W. Jones Memorial Scholarship is available to deaf or hard-of-hearing graduate students enrolled in any major or academic program at SDSU. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average, be enrolled full-time, and have financial need. One or more scholarships of between $500 and $1,000 are available each year.

Tennes A. Moe Memorial Scholarship

The Tennes A. Moe Memorial Scholarship was established by the friends and family of Tennes A. Moe, who was deaf, to nourish the dreams and desires of others with the same or similar disabilities.
Scholarships are available to deaf and/or legally blind undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in any major or academic program at SDSU. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and be enrolled full-time. Scholarship awards may be used for books, fees, or other costs associated with university attendance. Awards may be renewed for up to four additional years. The number and value of scholarships available each year vary.
